The model

Arbitrage, in plain terms

Arbitrage means acquiring a Virtual Digital Asset at one level and disposing of it at a higher one, with the difference between the two — the spread — being the result. It is a trading activity, not an investment product.

At KOUSHIK RANJIT PRIVATE LIMITED this is carried out strictly for the company’s own account, with the company’s own funds. We do not raise, pool, hold or deploy anyone else’s capital, and there is no arrangement under which another person’s money is traded.

Understanding VDAs

What Is a Virtual Digital Asset?

Educational information, expressed in the language Indian tax law uses.

The definition

Indian income-tax law treats a Virtual Digital Asset as a defined category that covers cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and comparable tokens, non-fungible tokens, and any further digital asset the Government notifies. The classification is a legal one rather than a technical one.

How transfers are treated

Transfers of VDAs fall under a separate tax regime, attract tax deducted at source in specified cases, and must be reported in the income-tax return. Rates, thresholds and reporting requirements change over time and depend on your circumstances — confirm the current position with a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Educational information only

Everything on this page describing VDA taxation is general educational information about Indian rules as we understand them. It is not tax advice, it is not a computation of anyone’s liability, and it must not be relied on in place of advice from a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Our approach

Acquire. Dispose. Comply.

Three stages, each with its own discipline — and documentation at every step.

01

Acquire

The company purchases a Virtual Digital Asset once terms are confirmed with the counterparty. The rate is agreed and communicated before anything is executed — nothing is settled on an unstated basis.

02

Dispose

The asset is sold at a higher level reflecting prevailing market conditions and the company’s operating margin. The final rate is stated plainly rather than embedded in an undisclosed adjustment.

03

Comply

Each transfer is recorded for the company’s books with awareness of tax deducted at source where it applies, income tax on VDA transfers, and the documentation needed for reporting.
